Discover local life in the Fjord. We start our trip in Akureyri and head south into the into the stunning Eyjafjordur, the longest fjord in Iceland which was formed by a glacial carving after the last ice age. We pass local homes nestled in the mountains, farm fields and the salmon river off Eyjafjord and on our way to the small town of Hrafnagil which is also called Raven's Gully
Christmas House and Boutique Shop
In Hrafnagil we visit the Christmas House and boutique shop which sells Scandinavian and European souvenirs. The Christmas House is built in a traditional Scandinavian style and demonstrates the unique Icelandic Christmas traditions. The local's passion and love for Christmas is shown in this little Christmas house. You can see the how Icelandic traditions differ from the well-known Santa Claus and Christmas traditions, for example, in Iceland there are thirteen Santas or Yule Lads who are half troll and a Christmas Cat.
The Old Farmhouse and a sample of local food
The next stop is 'The Old Farmhouse', a 19th Century farmhouse museum. The farmhouse was a home and lively farm where small plays were performed. It was abandoned many years ago and was left frozen in time. Luckily it has been preserved and turned into a time capsule museum where you can glimpse into the lives of people at that time and see the pictures, work tools, clothes, crockery and heirlooms left behind. During your visit you will get to sample some local-home grown food.
Robotic dairy farm tour and complimetary coffe/tea with waffle at Cafe Ku
We then move onto the unique automatic robotic dairy farm with milking robots, massage machine, matresses, automatic feeding system, and cleaning robots. The happy cows can decide when they want to be milked. The owner will personally guide you through the barn and you can meet the cows. You can then relax in the farm's cafe overlooking the cows where you can have a complimentary coffee/tea and waffle with whipped cream all home made with milk from the farm.
