The pseudocraters or rootless cones are formed in the land around Lake Myvatn from where the heat from a volcanic eruptions caused steam explosions leaving these crater like shapes. It is where Neil Armstrong undertook training for the moon landing due to the similarity to the surface of the moon!

Great tour, perfect if you're looking to keep spotting them in the future
The guide was a rock star. Incredibly knowledgeable and entertaining, the tour would've been fun even without getting to see the northern lights due to his stories and facts. So it follows that getting the light show that we did made the trip an extra special time...
